New Orleans police are investigating the death of a small boy in Mid-City who had apparently been inside a car from 7 or 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, a Orleans Parish coroner's spokesman said.
He was identified as Winston White, said John Gagliano, chief investigator for the coroner's office.
"He's about 3 or 4 years old," NOPD Officer Garry Flot said.
It was not immediately clear how the boy came to be in the car, but a relative of the child was babysitting the boy. The relative has not been identified.
The incident occurred in the 600 block of North Scott Street, which is near the relative's residents, according to perlimary information.
Temperatures in New Orleans Tuesday, with the heat index, rose to 95 degrees.
The mother is not believed involved in the incident, but police said she has been uncooperative.
