Chandler police said a 3-year-old Chandler boy found in a parked car outside his home died Tuesday.

Detectives with the Chandler Police Department are investigating the events that led to the toddler's death, spokesman Detective David Ramer said.

April Carpenter, 24, was at her home near the 2200 block of West Boston Street when she realized her son was missing, Sgt. Joe Favazzo said. She searched the house and checked with neighbors before calling police to report his disappearance around 11 a.m.

Carpenter did not search the vehicle, according to Ramer.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the boy in the front seat of the family car parked in the driveway, Ramer said.

Detectives said it is still unclear how exactly the boy ended up inside the vehicle.

According to Favazzo, the child was unresponsive and officers began CPR. Chandler Fire personnel transported the child to a hospital where he later died.

Police do not know if neighbors helped Carpenter search for the child or how long the boy was in the car.
