Infant dies in car

By John Beaudoin

A 13-month-old Lee’s Summit boy was found dead in a car in the Winterset Park neighborhood of Lee’s Summit Thursday afternoon.

Lee’s Summit Police are not releasing the name of the infant or his parents, but said the boy’s mother is with police detectives. Lee’s Summit Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Depue said that, while the investigation is ongoing, they do not suspect foul play.

A 911 call came in around 4:30 p.m. as a non-breather. Police, firefighter and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene at Wintercreek and Winterpark roads. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

“Right now, we are interviewing people and trying to put the pieces together,” Depue said. “As a matter of routine, we did tow the car from the scene.”

The infant, who was in a car seat, was transported from the scene.

Dupue said officers who respond to such infant deaths have access to the department’s critical incident stress management program.

Reports from the medical examiner’s office on the cause of death could take two to six weeks, Depue said.
