A 3-year-old boy was found dead in a car near La Vernia on Sunday, Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke said.

Police aren't releasing much information, citing an ongoing investigation, but suspect it's an accidental, heat-related death.

The call came in to the sheriff's office shortly before 5 p.m. Temperatures reached 98 degrees Sunday.

An autopsy was to be conducted Monday in Lockhart.

“Until we get the autopsy and get more and complete the investigation, that's really all we have,” Zwicke said. “We're still interviewing people.”

Kids and Cars, a Kansas-based advocacy organization, said it was the fourth such death in Texas so far this year.
