Toddler dies after being left in car

A 2-year-old Kanawha County boy died after apparently being left in a car at his parents' home for five hours, neighbors said.

The parents returned to their trailer near Campbell's Creek Friday morning and fell asleep, leaving the child in the car's back seat, WSAZ NewsChannel 3 reported. Temperatures reached the mid-70s in Charleston.

When the boy's father later realized what happened, he ran to a neighbor for help.

The Kanawha County sheriff's department declined comment this morning pending the results of an autopsy.

"He was in there for a long time. They went in the house and left him in there," neighbor Jason Flowers said.
