The five-month-old child found dead in a car in Patterson has been identified and no charges have been filed in the incident.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle confirmed this morning the child’s name was Marley F. LaGarde and that she was found dead in a car Thursday at 3:53 p.m.

LaSalle said the infant’s mother, Carmen LaGarde, went to her babysitter’s house to pick up her child after work, but LaGarde was told she had not brought her child to daycare that morning.

The baby subsequently was discovered in the vehicle’s backseat, the chief said.

LaSalle said his department has found no criminal charges in this incident and has forwarded findings to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office and the St. Mary Parish District Attorney’s Office.

“This was a tragic accident,” he said. “The community should come together for the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

The infant was the granddaughter of St. Mary Parish Councilman Steve Bierhorst.
