ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A 2-year-old died after being left in a hot car for almost four hours at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute.

A woman arrived at SIPI early Wednesday morning with a 4-year-old child and a 2-year-old girl in her car. The mother had an appointment at SIPI with the 4-year-old, so she left the 2-year-old in the car.

At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the mother went out to the car and found the 2-year-old inside the car. She rushed the child into the day care inside SIPI and they tried to save the young girl's life.

The little girl later died at the hospital. Bernalillo County sheriffs are investigating.

KRQE has a crew on the scene and will post updates as they become available.
