NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – A 16-month-old girl is dead, after police say her father left her in a vehicle.
According to a press release from the Newport Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Doyle Street around 4:42 p.m. Friday, in reference to a child that had been left in a vehicle.
When officers and the Newport Fire Department EMS arrived, they discovered that 16-month-old, Landyn Tickle was dead.
Police say following a preliminary investigation, police determined the child died when her father, Matt Tickle, forgot she was in the vehicle.
In the press release, police say Matt Tickle intended to take the young girl to a local daycare center Friday morning and forgot to drop her off.
Tickle then went to work at a local business and the child was left inside the vehicle while strapped in a car seat. The father did not discover the child until he came back home from work. Police and EMS were then notified.
Police say they believe at this time, the child's death is a result of her being exposed to excessive heat inside the vehicle.
Matt Tickle is currently in the Jackson County Detention Center. Charges are still pending.
Tickle is expected to appear in the Jackson County District Court in Newport on Monday, August 6. He will be arraigned then.
Landyn Tickle will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
