MOORHEAD – A 5-month-old baby girl died here Tuesday night after she was left in her car seat in a vehicle.

Police Lt. Chris Carey said officers, along with Moorhead Fire and F-M Ambulance crew members, responded to the report of an unresponsive child at 1103 19th St. S. around 8:22 p.m.

Carey said the girl had been left in a minivan for an “extended period of time,” possibly hours.

The baby, who was identified as Christiana N. Sandstrom, died at the scene.

Carey said the incident is still in its early stages and is ongoing.

“During the initial investigation, it appeared accidental,” Carey said late Tuesday.

Police did not say if the windows in the vehicle had been opened.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in the metro area hovered around 80 degrees most of Tuesday afternoon and reached 82 degrees around 6 p.m.
